Dr Aamer Ikram graduated in 1987; did Diploma in Pathology (1990); qualified MCPS (1991); Fellowship (Clinical Microbiology) in 1998; clinical training from UK (2005); and PhD (Microbiology) 2014. Qualified Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (National University of Science & Technology) followed by Diploma Disaster Management. Excelled in the fields of biosafety, biosecurity, dual-use safety and infection control accomplishing a wide range of courses from renowned universities like Harvard, Oxford, South Florida, Iowa, Chester, Bradford, etc, and workshops from UN, WHO, CDC, ASM and ABSA. During 2009-10, he completed one year certificate course from University of Iowa; later ‘Dual-use Biosecurity’ master trainer course from Bradford University. First Pakistani to be a Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) from ABSA (USA); Biosafety Level 2 Professional from Institute of Safety in Technology & Research (UK); and IFBA Certified Professional. Awarded FRCP by Royal College Edinburgh in 2012; and FRCPath from Royal College of Pathologists London in 2014.
He has been Chief Editor of Infectious Diseases Journal Pakistan, and is among the editorial board of renowned national and international journals. Have more than hundred and fifty publications.
Holds multiple portfolios including: President Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan; HEC Focal Point of Expertise under National Research Programme for Universities; Convener Microbiology PMRC; and member several National Working Groups. Recently selected as International Ambassador by Society Healthcare Epidemiology of America. Was conferred ‘Biosafety Heroes Award’ by International Federation of Biosafety Associations in 2011.
